The Longest Night

22 Dec
The longest night
Of the year,
To the ancient pagans
It was something to fear.

But at last
There came the morn,
And they rejoiced
That the sun was reborn.

Over time they
Created many different rites,
To push back the darkness
And welcome back the light.

Stories were created
And songs they did sing,
Of Bialobog and Czarnabog,
The Oak King and The Holly King.

Baking treats and
A candle I do light,
To celebrate Winter Solstice
And Yule's longest night.

A Great Miracle Happened There

20 Dec

Your religious practices

Hellenistic Ruler Antiochus forbade,

The Maccabees rebelled

And from the Greeks a price was paid.

Rededication of the Jewish temple

Was their right,

But found they only enough oil to last one night.

A great miracle happened there

Celebrated to this day.

The oil lasted eight nights,

And a new shipment arrived from far away.

So make your latkes and sufganiyot, play with

Dreidels and light the menorah with the Shimash.

It is time to celebrate Hannukah,

The eight night Jewish festival of light bash.

Walking With The Goddess

19 Aug

She smiled at me, asked me
How I was doing as we walked
Amongst the trees along the
Forest path.

I took a deep breath, told her
I had my up and down days,
Doubtful times when I pray to
Her and her Consort.

She hugs me, we continue
To walk and leave the woods
Behind, through fields of flowers
And I continue to talk.

I’m finding new friends, some
From my past and some new,
And they are accepting me as
Me, who knew.

She laughs gently under the
Starry sky, says to me, “I knew.”
Your path is long, and stumble you
Will, but I am here for you.

My heart filled with joy,
As we said our farewells in
The Summerlands where I
Walk with the Goddess.

A Mother’s Song (version 2)

12 Jul
Dear Lord,
Have mercy on me.
My body is failing,
Can't you see?

I'm in pain,
Confused and scared.
My husband and sons,
And friends who cared,
Aren't ready to let go of me.
But the pain meds,
They don't work as well,
Why must this be?

I don't know what to do,
From the pain I want to be free.
But what of my loved ones?
How will they go on without me?

Though my health is going,
My body failing,
My heart is full,
My spirit is soaring.

My husband,
And my sons,
Though my body will be gone,
With you always I'll be,
No matter where you are.

Over you I'll be watching,
Your guardian spirit,
Residing forever in your heart,
My voice a mother's song,
Do you hear it?

A Mother’s Song (version 1)

11 Jul
Great Mother,
Have mercy on me.
My body is failing,
Can't you see?

I'm in pain,
Confused and scared.
My husband and daughter,
And friends who cared,
Aren't ready to let go of me.
But the pain meds,
They don't work as well,
Why must this be?

I don't know what to do,
From the pain I want to be free.
But what of my loved ones?
How will my daughter go on without me?

Though my health is going,
My body failing,
My heart is full,
My spirit is soaring.

My daughter,
My shining Star,
Though my body will be gone,
With you always I'll be,
No matter where you are.

Over you I'll be watching,
Your guardian spirit,
Residing forever in your heart,
My voice a mother's song,
Do you hear it?

Posting Two Versions Of A Poem

10 Jul

Monday, 11 July 2011, I will be posting version one of “A Mother’s Song”. On Tuesday, 12 July 2011, I will post version two of “A Mother’s Song”. Version one was written for a friend I have lost track of whom was dealing with a lot of pain at the time I wrote the poem for her and her daughter. Version two was a revised version in memoriam of my mother whom passed away in 2008. Comments on and rating the two versions would be appreciated.

The Sentinel Stands

7 Jun

The sentinel stands
With fiery sword
In hand, guarding
The entrance to a
Garden from which we
Are banned, a racial
Memory become an oral
Tradition, then written
As a story in the
Holy books of
Monotheistic religions.

The sentinel stands
With lantern in hand,
A guiding light back
To our eternal home,
A home we left by
Choice, that we might
Learn, with aid of loving
Guides, and love of our
Divine Mother and Father,
Lessons we can only experience
In a harsh land of living and dying.
